DARLINGTON
DRAGWAY
Bruce Springsteen sings about Darlington
County in a song and racers from the north
head southbound to dragstrips along the I-95 corridor
to get an early start on the racing season. But
this year they will have to wait a little longer
if they want to race at Darlington Dragway as
the owners put the finishing touches on a complete
rebuild of the racetrack.
Track officials plan for an opening
day sometime in April. A new drainage system has
been installed and completed that will eliminate
seeping water from the track surface a problem
many racetracks have in the south. Since the installation
of the drainage system there has been extremely
heavy rains in the area to test the work. Mother
nature's tests have proved the drainage system
was a complete success and there is no water seeping
onto the track surface. This was good news for
the track owners and racers as the long winter
has them climbing the walls and ready go racing..
Due to the time it took to complete
the drainage report and the install of the new
drainage system, the paving and milling date has
been delayed. The track is doing everything they
can to have the paving company fit us into their
very busy schedule.
Bill Wilson, Ronnie Siders, Sam
Kearns and all the staff at Darlington really
appreciate all your patience and thank you for
your ongoing support as many racers have been
calling the track and showing up to go racing.
"When the track does open, we promise it
will be well worth the wait" They said.
