the gear ratio color worksheet
Fill out the
lines below using up to 4 decimal places and divide with a calculator.
1- Count the
pilot gear teeth - _____
2- Count the reduction gear teeth on the countershaft - ______
3- Divide the large number into the smaller number and fill in
here- .______ (Should be a decimal ex:.82758 )
4- Count the
teeth on each gear for the mainshaft and counter shaft and divide
(ex: 2.1176, 1.5789)
a- Main #1
________ divided by the _________ countershaft #1 = ________ ratio
#1
b- Main #2
________ divided by the _________ countershaft #2 = ________ ratio
#2
c- Main #3
________ divided by the _________ countershaft #3 =_________ ratio
#3
d- Main #4
________ divided by the _________ countershaft #4 =_________ ratio
#4 ( 1 to 1)
Now divide
the ratio totals from lines #4 by the total from line #3
a - Ratio #1 ________ divided by total from #3 _________ = _________1st
final ratio
b- Ratio #2
________ divided by total from #3 _________= _________2nd final
ratio
c- Ratio #3
________ divided by total from #3 _________ =_________3rd final
ratio
d- Ratio #4
________ divided by total from #3 _________=__________4th final
ratio ( 1 to 1)
1965 M20 Example
- 1st - 36-17 = 2.1176, 2nd - 30-19 = 1.5789, 3rd - 27-22 = 1.2272
Then divide by the pilot / reduction gear ratio of .82758 by the
countershaft ratios
(1st gear - 2.117 divided by .8275 = 2.558) (2nd gear - 1.578
divided by .8275 = 1.9079)
(3rd gear - 1.227 divided by .8275 =1.4829) (4th gear 1-1)
